A research unit at Polytechnique Montréal, IET was founded by the Trottier Family Foundation. It strives to support the training of the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators with a systemic understanding of the technological, economic, and social issues specific to the energy sector. IET serves as a thought leader in the industry and promotes research for solutions to help ensure a sustainable energy future.

IET is active in the educational and scientific fields and produces impressive amounts of publications in all kinds of formats. In addition to scientific reports, publications, articles, and other types of written content, the Institut creates a variety of events, regularly collaborates with partners, and also initiates its own projects and funds other projects. IET offers grants and support for both students and companies working in the energy sector.

This wide range of content needed to be shown in an intuitive and clear way. We developed a few solutions combining visual cues and specific layouts to organize the information and present it in a manner that entices the user to learn more and interact with the site.

Icons and color schemes for Events, Publications and News

A series of icons and colour schemes were developed to differentiate between various types of events, publications and news. Green is used to denote events while blue is for publications and yellow is for news. This tricolored approach works well with IET’s main branding texture, which was also developed by Azura during the rebranding process.

Mini sites for Projects

IET’s projects are complex and need multiple pages, sections and various functionalities for correct representation. We solved this by creating mini sites for each project, complete with a modified header, menu and footer. Based on the main website, mini sites use the same design elements and layouts, but include customization needed for each project. Mini sites can be easily added and filled in by the client in the administration panel and include a possibility of creating extra pages that don’t appear in the menu in places where more information is needed. This functionality adds extra flexibility for all kinds of content that isn’t defined in the main template.

Light, highly organized and intuitive backend

Due to the specific nature of IET’s content, the website’s backend is fully customized to ensure ease of use. We eliminated the need to enter any information twice by creating lists such as “organizations” and “individuals” with various sorts of entries that can be used throughout the website. The possibility of associating various types of publications to events and projects with a simple click saves time during the content upload. Every little detail was meticulously thought through and automated as much as possible.

Lighting fast, mobile-friendly website

As with all our web projects, loading speed is the top priority. Our extra lean CMS ensures the loading speed in the top 90s for both desktop and mobile version. Mobile-friendly version adjusts the content of the website to be comfortably viewed on smaller screens of smart phones and tablets.
